Ock and Oeke settle in at Tanbark
Acres
October, 2004 |
We have some dear friends, the Bruinsma family in Friesland,
who own and breed some terrific mares. The Bruinsmas
own a fine stable of horses, including Mark and Hessel
- frequent Dutch harness champions. But for the breeding
program, the queen of the stable is Frearckje. Born in
the early 1980's, Frearckje is still producing top quality
foals and now has 7 or 8 (we lost count) star offspring.
Frearckje's offspring are now producing A+ foals of their
own and this year the Bruinsmas agreed to sell us two
of their fillies.
Welcome Ock and Oeke, imported from the Netherlands in October
2004!

Ock (pronounced as it is spelled. This is the Friesian word
for "daughter") is by the Leffert son Mintse. Ock's mother
is Kike, daughter of Frearckje and the famous perferent
stallion Oege. Ock is tall and leggy with that famous
Leffert head and neck. Ock was a first premie at her
weanling keuring.
Oeke (pronouced like "look-uh", but with no L.
This is the Friesian word for "sweetheart") is
by the Folkert son Weird. Oeke's mother is Annabet,
daughter of Frearckje and the fiery stallion Tsjerk. Oeke
is smart and friendly, with the compact size one expects
from Tsjerk. Oeke was a second premie at her weanling keuring.
The name Oeke is a little difficult for Americans
to say, so we have taken to calling her Abby. She is Annabet's
Baby - AB - Abby. Get it? Oeke is the first friesian
purchased by our daughter Carole, shown here.
Another happy Friesian owner as part of Tanbark Acres!
We'll provide more information and pictures as soon as we
can. In the meantime, say hello to the new girls!
