CONFIRMED Colt for Sale!
Cori (ster)
Open this year. Will start breeding May 2008.
Friesian prices vary based on the horse's breeding, gender,
age, judged rating, and degree of training. Although we are
open to selling any member of our stock, the prices may change
as we invest more in the animal's training, or if the horse
goes through a judging ("keuring") and receives
a premium rating. As a rule of thumb, contracts
on unborn foals range from $8,000 to $12,000 - depending
on the foal's breeding. A newly born foal will range in price
from $10,000 to $15,000. A weanling will be priced at $12,000
to $17,000. Finished horses (trained, with premium ratings)
often sell for $20,000 at a minimum and can go quite high
for a Star broodmare or finished gelding.
Some people wonder why the prices are as they are. There are a few main reasons. (1) There are just not that many Friesians, especially the top-quality FPS-registered Friesians (to learn more about Friesians, please take a moment to read the Friesian FAQ). Therefore, supply is not as great as demand (2) Breeding can be expensive. There are the typical stud fees, collection fees and vet fees (nearly 100% of the breedings are artificial insemination and require a vet). And there are only about 80 approved stallions in the world, so stallion owners can demand a high price for stud fees (3) Friesians do not get pregnant as easily as other breeds. We are not completely sure why. We do know that we rejoice everytime we have a baby on the way (4) Premium breeding stock (such as star mares) are precious creatures. It is understandable that their offspring will be highly valued.
The best prices will be on foals not yet born. At Tanbark
Acres, you may place a contract on an upcoming baby with terms
and conditions based on its gender (obviously, we will not
sell any horse - baby or not - that does not pass a thorough
vet check). This "upcoming baby" option is a popular,
affordable alternative for many of our customers.
