Pronunciation of Friesian Stallion Names
We are often asked how a certain stallion's name is pronounced. The videos from the stallion show do not quite have the right
pronunciation because the show is done in Dutch by a Dutch speaker, not a native Friesian. Thus the speaker says these great
old names with a Dutch accent.
When the stallion names are spoken by a native of Friesland, the sound is musical and lovely. Luckily, there is a native
Friesian woman close by who graciously gave her time to let me (Jeannine) record her. Having lived in America for the past 30 years, she does not know these horses, but she loved the list of names, repeatedly saying what fine old Friesian names these are. I hope
you enjoy these sound files as much as I enjoyed processing them.
